Rules & Expectations
Rules for riding a CPMA bus:
• Be at the bus stop 10 minutes before the time the bus is scheduled to arrive.
• Have his/her own school ID to ride the bus every morning and afternoon (when IDs are issued). If the student’s ID is lost, new ID can be purchased for $5.00.
• Follow the directions of the bus driver at all times.
• Sit properly in your seat: facing forward with your feet on the floor.
• Do not put feet or other objects in the aisle.
• Do not eat, drink, chew gum or leave trash on the bus.
• Do not put anything out the window: hands, heads, books, trash, etc., or throw anything in the bus. Carry all trash off the bus.
• Keep talking, singing, and other noises to a normal conversational level.
• If there is a seating chart, your child must sit in his/her assigned seat every day.
• If the bus has seat belts, students are required by law to use them.
• Your child may bring a CD player or i-pod on the bus and listen to it. It must be put away as soon as he/she gets on school grounds. It will be confiscated if it is out on school grounds. The school is not liable if it is stolen or broken.
• Your child can only ride his/her assigned bus and get off at his/her assigned stop. In order to ride a bus other than the student’s assigned bus, or to use a stop different than his/her assigned stop, the student must have a note signed by his /her parent specifying which bus and stop the student will use that day and obtain a temporary pass. The student should take the note to the office by the end of the lunch period on the day the temporary pass is required. For the safety of the students, school officials can only honor change requests from parents or legal guardians.
If your child breaks the rules, the bus driver will give him/her a referral and a copy will be sent to you. We may also call you. Consequences for breaking the bus rules will be assigned according to the following district guidelines:
• #1 referral: warning and/or campus beautification
• #2 referral: after school detention or Saturday school
• #3 referral: parent called, suspended from the bus for two days
• #4 referral: parent called, suspended from the bus for five days
• #5 referral: parent called, student not allowed to ride the bus for the rest of the year –parent is responsible for providing transportation to and from school
• We reserve the right to override the above consequences if the violation is particularly serious. For example, such behaviors as fighting, throwing things out of the window, abusive language and zero tolerance offenses among others can result in immediate bus and/or school suspension.
